1990年 在起在兰州大学地理系任教。
1992年 任兰州大学地理系副教授。
1995年 任教授和自然地理学博士生导师。
1998年 任兰州大学地理系副主任。
1999年-2005年 任资源环境学院院长。
2005年-2008年 任教育部“985”二期“西北资源环境与生态”I类科技创新平台首席科学家。
2005年 起任西部环境教育部重点实验室主任。
2007年 任兰州大学副校长。
2008年 起任兰州大学学术委员会副主任。
2010年 起任西部环境与气候变化研究院学术委员会主任。
